Lottery registration
Step 1: Thursday, Jan. 23rd
On Thursday, Jan. 23rd, registration opens at 6pm PST.
Applications are for individuals or for pairs who prefer to attend together. No registration fee is required.
If you are a canyon leader or rendezvous volunteer who's not yet had confirmation of your place, sign up anyhow, and we'll ensure you're not double counted.
Step 2: Friday, Jan. 31st
On Friday, Jan. 31st, the lottery will close at 6pm PST, and registrants will be picked from the entries.
This lottery draw will assign the majority of our spots. Any participant spots which open in the future will be assigned from this original lottery draw.
If you are a canyon leader (or assistant) or are a rendezvous volunteer, you will have an automatic spot in the event.
Step 3: Sunday, Feb. 2nd
On Sunday, Feb. 2nd, registrants will be notified by email of lottery placement (winner or waitlist).
Winners will have until Tuesday, Feb. 4th, 6pm PST to confirm their spot. Failure to complete signup within that timeframe means your spot will be reassigned.
Additional entries will be added to the waitlist on a first come, first serve basis and notified once their spot becomes available.
Full details: How registration works for 2025
Rondy registration will occur via lottery. Interested participants should sign up for the lottery, which opens on Thursday, Jan. 23rd at 6pm PST and closes on Friday, Jan. 31st at 6pm PST. Participants who receive a spot at the PNW Rondy will be notified by Sunday, Feb. 2nd and will have until Tuesday, Feb. 4th, 6pm PST to confirm.
Why a lottery and not first come, first serve like 2023?
At our first PNW Rondy, first come, first served registration filled up in less than 2 minutes!
While we were stoked to see the excitement for PNW canyoning, we sought a more equitable solution (i.e., not based on who has the fastest fingers or fastest internet connection). We believe improving accessibility helps build a diverse and inclusive community and introduces this wonderful sport to more folks.
How is the lottery structured?
We will make the process as transparent as we reasonably can. We received feedback that folks wanted the ability to register together, so we have expanded options to include individual or paired lottery entries.
Random number generator to choose winners
Lottery entries will be selected by a verifiable random number generator. This essentially means we're using a computer to draw names from a hat.
You can enter as an individual or pair (but not both).
Each person may only have their name on one entry, regardless of whether you register as an individual or a pair.
For example, if John submits a lottery entry as a pair for himself and his friend Susan, Susan must not submit an additional lottery entry.
If you choose to register as a pair, you will win or lose the lottery together.
If one of the pair cannot attend the Rendezvous, their spot is non-transferable and will be given to the next person on the waitlist.
Who needs to register for the lottery?
Anyone interested in attending the 2025 PNW Canyon Rendezvous should register. If you are a canyon leader or rendezvous volunteer who's not yet had confirmation of your place, sign up anyhow, and we'll ensure you're not double counted.
Will there be a waitlist?
The lottery system we are using will generate an order for all participants.
Once the lottery is complete, we will notify those of you on the waitlist with roughly where you are on the waitlist (e.g., "You are between #10 and #20 on the waitlist").
Those who enter after the lottery closes will be added to the waitlist on a first come, first serve basis and notified once their spot becomes available.
Oh no! My BFF didn't get a spot, is there an empty spot for them?
As we get closer to the Rondy, it's natural that some participants will drop from the event.
Our process will begin offering spots to the next lottery winner on the waitlist.
But really though, can't you just get my BFF in?
No. We are focused on making this a transparent and equitable process.
Quietly going around that process might make you happy, but will upset someone else who was awarded a legit spot.
Got a better idea for next year?
Great! We incorporated your feedback for 2026, and would love if you helped us make a better event for next year.
Get in touch and show us your idea for an equitable solution that accounts for people from diverse backgrounds to be included in this sport we all love. We're all ears, and love a good spreadsheet calculation.
We've got a good thing going, let's keep it that way.
